What’s good Global Grind?? 😉

I’m here right now putting the finishing touches on my next album called ‘The Element of Freedom’, which is coming out on Dec 1st, also known as World AIDS Day!

I’m SUPER excited about the music – I can’t wait for you to hear and also about the opportunity I have to bring forth awareness about the AIDS work I do.

We all deserve the freedom to fly as high as we can go, so I have to give you the heads up about the Keep a Child Alive Black Ball, happening next Thursday, October 15th in the Empire State!

It’s my night to combine my two loves – music and my charity,  Keep a Child Alive.

I’m so excited about this year’s event!  Excited about the honorees, about the performances.

I feel so blessed to know we have the opportunity to raise the money that will literally keep people alive!

This year, the Black Ball is honoring President Bill Clinton, who has had a greater impact on gaining access to AIDS treatment for the world’s poor than anyone else!  It was my honor to join him at the Clinton Global Initiative Meeting several weeks ago, where I announced Keep a Child Alive’s expansion into India…and I can’t wait to see him again! (can’t help but be motivated around someone like this)

The event will also be honoring Sir Richard Branson – who has shown that business can be a force of good through his non-profit Virgin Unite –(I feel this is how business should operate!)   And Youssou Ndour, who has used his music to unite, educate and inform people everywhere about the critical challenges facing his continent! (A true soldier for change!)

It will be a beautiful night hosted by myself and my fellow Global Ambassadors, Iman and Padma Lakshmi. Queen Latifah will be joining us as emcee for the evening, and I’ll be rocking it out on stage with Youssou Ndour, John Mayer, and Chris Martin from Coldplay! Sick sick sickness!!!!

But what really makes this night special to me is knowing how great an impact it will have not only on those attending, but in the lives of all the people in Africa and India who we serve and who TRULY feel more than just ripples of this effect.

For those of you not familiar with Keep a Child Alive, I founded it with my good friend and long time AIDS activist, Leigh Blake, to provide life-saving AIDS medicine to children and families in Africa and India.  Today, KCA’s work goes beyond just treatment, to provide for all the surrounding care patients need to live with HIV.

I’m proud to say we build and support clinics, orphanages, pediatric wings, nutrition programs, training for doctors and nurses and community based organizations.

The Black Ball is the one fundraiser that Keep a Child Alive organizes every year to raise money to support our sites on the ground.

KCA relies mainly on donations from people just like you.  It takes less than a dollar a day to care for the people at the clinics and orphan care centers we support.
People sign up every day on our website to donate $30 a month.  Students organize fundraisers at their schools and raise thousands of dollars to support our work.

And anyone with a cell phone can donate $5 at any time by texting the word “ALIVE” to 90999!

This is one of my favorites since its as easy as easy as downloading a ringtone! Try it now, it makes u feel good! 😉

Any contribution, great or small, can make a difference.  And I believe it is our HUMAN responsibilit
