K. Michelle is all set to drop her debut album Pain Medicine in February. She also just finished her killer BET Music Matter Tour with RocNation’s future J-Cole. Things couldn’t be better for K.Michelle. She sat down with GlobalGrind for an exclusive interview. We asked her about her label troubles, J-Cole,and why she’s calling R. Kelly her daddy. Check it out below.

K. Michelle on touring w/ J-Cole:

It was amazing J-Cole is the most humble person that you could be out on tour with, no egos everyone was cool and just loves music.

K. Michelle on hip hop shows filled w/ white boys:

My favorite moment on tour was just getting out there and meeting a bunch of new people. I’m R&B. I’m straight R&B you know that musical type shit. This was hip hop so it was a bunch of white boys out there every night. I got to see white boys for the first time. I’ll date a white boy, I think right now.

K. Michelle feelings about Hitz Committee:

Shit’s committee, because it’s awful, it’s an awful place to be careers are buried, and people die.

K. Michelle on Jive Saving Her Life:

It was like I know why the caged bird sings. I was trapped in a bad situation, but it’s not the case anymore. I still have that symbol on my music, but Jive has basically saved my life and carried me through this whole situation. You know, to labels we are disgruntled artists. I went through a lot of major issues on that label and I’m supposed to be quiet so I can write a book about it. God makes room for your talent and you’re supposed to do something. I’m just happy that the parties working with me knew I wasn’t the problem.

There were things about me that i knew as an artist but being with him on a consistent basis he’s made me more confident. He’s brought out the things that I strayed away from and was scared to do because people want to put you in a box.

K. Michelle on being trained by R. Kelly:

Artists tend to fall in that box but with him he says you are the people you do what the hell you want to do. Be human and make good music. He’s trained me and he’s still training me and I completely respect him and I thank you every day.

K. Michelle on being on R. Kelly’s new album Love Letter:

Being the only feature on this R. Kelly album is absolutely amazing because it’s this album. With any album I would be excited, but this one more than anything because this is him at his best. Where he is right now is amazing. He’s not making that coon music on the radio. It’s a tribute to Sam Cooke and Marvin Gaye. We did a Marvin Gaye and Tammy t
