Fifth grader Tamia Gaines, a student at John Neely Bryan Elementary School in Dallas ISD, presents the winning speech from the 18th Annual Gardere MLK Jr. Oratory Competition held Jan. 15, 2010, at The Majestic Theatre. This years topic What will I be able to achieve in my life because of what Dr. King achieved in his? brought forth speeches ripe with hope and ambition, featuring future lawyers, veterinarians and even a few presidential candidates. Presented in Dallas and Houston by the Texas-based law firm Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP, the competition commemorates the life of Dr. King and is designed to highlight the cultural diversity of the community while recognizing and encouraging the writing and presentation skills of elementary school students.
