When Chicago community activist Andrew Holmes was sent a video of a child smoking marijuana, he quickly notified police.

NBC Chicago reports Holmes went to police late Wednesday with the video. Holmes said he doesn’t know when the footage was taken; however, in it, a child wearing a diaper is instructed by an adult to inhale smoke from what appears to be marijuana.

The Area South Special Victims unit of the Chicago Police Department is investigating. Holmes said when he first viewed the video on social media, it had over 500 likes and 1,200 comments.

NBC Chicago reports:

“This is sickening,” Holmes said. “This child needs help ASAP if he hasn’t had help already. It’s disturbing to hear the adult that was in the background to let them hit it and they’re telling the child to inhale.”

“If anyone could recognize that child or know who that child is, don’t be afraid to call the Chicago Police Department,” Holmes said.

Videos of children smoking cigarettes and marijuana have gone viral over the years — from children in Indonesia as young as two, to a child from Macedonia being encouraged to execute a perfect “puff.”

Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids reports smoking can affect the growing body and cause pre-cancerous gene mutations, increased heartbeat and high blood pressure.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services told reporters they couldn’t confirm whether they will launch their own investigation. The Illinois Attorney General’s officer will not look into the video.
