With Meek Mill’s announcement comes more great news. Hot 97 has decided to donate $10,000 to the Justice League NYC to support their criminal justice reform initiatives.
“We are happy to welcome our man Meek Mill is to the Summer Jam stage. He has been through hell and what he needs is mad love and our continued support,” said Ebro Darden, Asst. Program Director, HOT 97’s morning show host. Meek Mill’s case gained national attention since his controversial imprisonment five months ago, with numerous celebrities speaking out as well as protests in support of his release.

In 2014, JAY-Z met with New York Governor Andrew Cuomo in the wake of Eric Garner’s death to discuss ways to reform the criminal justice system. In 2017 he brought more attention to prison reform with the release of the documentary “Time: The Kalief Browder Story,” in which he served as executive producer.
John Legend
John Legend joined Roland Martin on NewsOne Now last year to discuss his thoughts on Donald Trump and the criminal justice system.
“I’m afraid the pendulum has swung back to the law and order crew,” Legend said Friday in response to Martin’s commentary about the nation’s refusal to do away with the lock ’em up law-and-order mentality. “I think Trump‘s entire message has been one of authoritarianism and fear mongering. You’ll see it with crime as well. He will give completely inaccurate crime stats about crime in certain cities. His motive is to sow fear so that he can have more control.”
Alicia Keys
Alicia Keys began the We Are Here movement and partnered with the prison reform group #cut50 in 2015 to create a campaign asking Congress and the White House to pass “meaningful” criminal justice reforms before the end of the year.
