HBO Celebrates New Season Of 'Insecure' With Block Party In Inglewood

Episode six of Insecure was a lot — and that’s summing it up as easily as possible. The episode started off promising. Issa and Nathan seem to be hitting it off nicely. He’s supporting her dreams and they seem to be very close to falling in love. Lawrence is back (Lawrence Hive can breathe again) and it seems he’s been having a lot of “fun” while he’s been away. Things aren’t going so well for Chad but that’s okay, he seems to be handling it well, right?

Things seemed pretty peachy and all back to order, however somewhere in the middle of the episode it all went to hell — quickly! Dro is back in the picture and not for any good reason, Tiffany and Kelli have a falling out after Tiffany finds some new bourgeois pregnant friends to hang out with and our fave Nathan (aka Nanceford) has completely gone missing. He’s not answering her calls and he doesn’t have a voicemail set up. Something is wrong and he’s looking really sketchy.

One thing that is never sketchy is Insecure’s playlist for the episode. This one was full of all the gems to make this dramatic rollercoaster of an episode less heart wrenching. Let’s get right into it, shall we?

Leikeli47 – “Mulita”

Leikeli47 makes back to back musical appearances on Insecure. After being featured on last week’s episode, she opens this week with an Insecure soundtrack original. What a perfect track to play while watching Lawrence’s excursions!

Mereba – “Black Truck”

Mereba, also known as Marian Mereba or M. Mereba, is of Ethiopian and Afro-Native American decent. She was born in Montgomery, AL and raised in Atlanta. She now lives in Los Angeles and all of her journeys are likely to have contributed to her very eclectic sound.

Bas &  J. Cole – “Tribe”

J. Cole linked up with his Dreamville artist Bas for “Tribe” which dropped only a few weeks ago. The song appears on Bas’ new “Milky Way” album.

Bri Steves – “Jealousy”

Philly rapper Bri Steves dropped “Jealousy” (which happens to sample Jon B’s “They Don’t Know”) early in the summer so it was a pleasant surprise to hear it featured on Insecure. Fun fact about Bri, she writes her own music, produces and engineers — and she’s self-taught.

Molly Brazy – “Trust None”

Molly Brazy, who hails from Detroit, dropped “Trust None” last year as part of her “Big Brazy” project. She’s a fairly newcomer to the scene, but has also released the singles “More Facts” and “Gang.”

Gabriel Garzon-Montano – “Golden Wings”

What better song to play while we stare at paintings of Tiffany immortalized as Beyonce, Serena Williams and Cardi B. “Golden Wings” dropped over the summer and is a fan favorite for Garzon-Montano who is currently on tour.

Snoh Aalegra – “Fool For You”

Issa is reconnecting with Lawrence, they’re laughing, smiling, enjoying each other, of course a song called “Fool For You” would be playing lovingly in the background. “Fool For You” appears on Snoh Aalegra’s 2017 album “FEELS”.

Radiant Children – “Go Left”

Radiant Children makes a second musical appearance on Insecure this season. “Go Left” appears on their “Tryin” EP which dropped in August. It was the perfect song to end the episode considering literally everything went left.
