The coronavirus has brought on some stressful times resulting in businesses closing down, social distancing that could last for months, and people we know and love contracting the virus.
Our hearts go out.
With such social isolation, a wave of emotions can hit you, resulting in the burning need to cuddle up to something gentle, soft and dare I say it, erotic.
Feels like just the right time for R&B.
This past year was ripe with fresh voices in the genre that soothed, excited or even initiated the party. Whether you need slow jams from a shirtless tenor or soaring runs from a beautiful soprano, check out some R&B artists worth getting to know starting with Arin Ray below. Then hit the flip for more crooners you can cuddle up to during your most vulnerable quarantine moments.
It’s not like we can cuddle up to much else.
1. Arin Ray
If you need someone to sweet serenade you with romantic melodies and simple harmonies to melt the heart, Arin Ray is your guy. The former X Factor contestant went from being a promising teen talent to a sensual soul who will apparently leave you love letters around the house if the mood permits.
2. Amber Mark
This eclectic singer will give you easy-listening grooves like “What If”, while at the same time, give you sensual storytelling with a hint of twerk on tracks like “Generous”. No matter what you like, there’s no denying her vocal chops are distinct and alluring. Just the thing to keep you hypnotized during these trying times.
3. Lucky Daye
This 34-year-old New Orleans native has already made his mark on the music industry, being nominated for four Grammy awards last year. But it’s never too late to reconnect like an old lover-friend. Lucky Daye is pure soul when his voice slivers in and out of falsetto-y goodness and low note runs that just might reach the pits of your soul.
4. Asiahn
Asiahn will definitely get you in your social distancing feelings. It’s nothing like an R&B singer with lyrics that hit your emotions right on the nail. Whether going through a break-up, finding a new love or doing some self-reflection, Asiahn will most likely have the words to elaborate. It’s the kind of storytelling that makes you look forward to a post-coronavirus future.
5. Shay Lia
If you like your R&B to be pensive, introspective, moody and possibly something you can light up to, Shay Lia is the artist for you. With support from stand-out producers like Kaytranada, Lia’s catalogue spans funky grooves to music you can just vibe too.
6. Inayah
When the day is done and you’ve listened to all the slow jams you can handle, sometimes you just want to get up and shake something. Inayah will provide the tunes plus erotic storytelling worthy of a Zane novel. During these isolated times, we need it…all of it.
