The ‘Lovergirl’ has left us. Born Marie Christine Brockert, Teena Marie rose to prominence in the late ’70s and ’80s, popping up on the scene with funk legend Rick James. An accomplished musician in her own right, Marie played the rhythm guitar, keyboards and congas.

A quintessential artist, Marie also wrote, produced, sang and arranged virtually all of her songs since her 1980 release ‘Irons in the Fire.’ Marie released 13 studio albums, six of which sold one million units on the US R&B chart. Two of her albums went platinum, and six altogether were gold. Marie’s biggest hit came in 1984 with her single ‘Lovergirl,’ which peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Marie’s life was music and she lived it, from her Motown days to the record label Epic, both her life and music amazed everyone. Take a look at some of her most memorable moments on stage.
