Over the weekend, hip-hop legend E-40 received a proclamation from Vallejo mayor Robert McConnell to officially designate October 21st as ‘E-40’ Day. Additionally, 40 received the key to the city of Vallejo and had his childhood street renamed in his honor.
As part of the ceremony in his hometown, there was a 1-mile stretch of Magazine Street that was officially renamed “E-40 Way” in a ceremony that was attended by Mistah F.A.B., The Click, 40’s longtime producers and engineers as well as his family and friends. E-40 Way is located on the street that E-40 grew up on as a kid in Vallejo and the ceremony took place literally in front of his childhood home.
E-40 is only the second recipient in Vallejo, California’s 173-year history to receive a key to the city and it recognized his contributions as a musician, entrepreneur and philanthropist. The ceremony also highlighted the fact that 2023 marked the 30-year anniversary of E-40’s debut studio album (Federal) that launched his career into stardom. He has proudly rapped about Magazine Street in his music, most notably in his single “
Magazine Street” from his Poverty and Prosperity album.
Over the course of his career in the music industry, E-40 has firmly solidified his status as a living legend and pioneer for West Coast hip-hop, having released several multiplatinum and gold studio albums, collaborations and hit singles, including “U and Dat,” “Tell Me When To Go,” “Choices (Yup),” and “Function,” among countless others. As a solo artist, E-40 holds the record for most solo album entries on the Billboard 200 charts by a hip-hop artist (32).
Beyond his accolades as an entertainer, the Vallejo native has become equally as successful as an entrepreneur, having built a robust empire in the wine and spirit industry. He has launched over 17 different still and sparkling wine offerings, tequila, cognac, bourbon, vodka, gin, a golden lager beer, and a variety of pre-mixed cocktails. E-40 also launched his new food brand in 2021 called “Goon With The Spoon” which includes a line of packaged sausages, burritos and ice cream.
Throughout his journey as an entertainer and entrepreneur, E-40 has proudly represented Vallejo and made significant philanthropic contributions to the city, including supporting local schools, providing bikes for the youth and donating meals to those in need. Congrats to E-40 and salute to all he does for the community!
